I've heard this from people who have raised, trained, bred, and shown champion Rottweilers. You HAVE to socialilze them. Pull up Dogs 101 The Rottweiler. You have to know what you are doing. Someone bought a Rottleier and would not let anyone pet him. He isolated him. When he hit him on the back you could hear it from 50 feet away as he yelled at him. Every time he walked that Rottweiler the dog's head hung down, a clear sign his spirit was broken, he was afraid, and had no life left in him. He bit a child. The fault was not the dog's. It was the owner's. There was no choice left but ethuanasia. He was six years old.

Have had 3 of my own Rottweilers over the years but they MUST be properly trained otherwise you're going to have problems. They can be headstrong but love and the correct training youve got a jewel.

I doubt I get a reply for this. But like…what do I do during sleeping hours? I can handle the hour on the hour more or less because I live with someone. But we do both need SOME sleep. How do I handle that? Does that go into the kennel training? (Asking pre emptively as I get pupper next week)

We do this but every night after going outside pooping and peeing before bed he will go in the crate and poop and piss in crate. He has been with us for 9 days. What else can we do??

People around here in my opinion don't seem to understand the socialization process and don't seem to want their dog to meet mine, I mean about 70 percent of the time even with my Golden.

My Yogi is my constant companion. He is a lover,a goof ball alert to everything around him. Most of all he is my body guard. I have to be careful when I meet new people who want to shake hands because he will jump up and chest bump. He is the smartest most confident dog I have ever seen,fearless . He loves to play and children are his responsibility to protect,you get to close to one of his kids and he will place him between the stranger and the child until he is told it’s ok. I have had several over the years ,but Yogi the Beardog is the best.

When you watch puppies playing and one gets aggressive and snappy, the other(s) will vocalize , stop the play and shun the other puppy (by turning is back or even walking away. This is the pack mentality. When my dog was a (very nippy) pup, I would say “No biting” in a strong loud voice and then ignore him..totally. When he was settled down and ready to behave appropriately, I would re-engage.

You are the reason my beautiful sweet 2 year old female Rottweiler Rosie is so well behaved. I've watched so many of your videos and took all your advice. I also watched other trainers videos but Will you are by far the very best. God gave you a gift and you did wonders with it. My Rosie is loved by so many people in my neighborhood that when we walk her people actually say" is that Rosie" then they come over and she just loves them right back. I can't thank you enough!!!!!

Great outline of training. It starts from the time you pick them up, through out their life. Life long commitment but worth the work in leaps and bounds. I've never regretted it. I miss our beautiful lila so much but we're so glad we rescued her. They said she had a long list of behaviour problems when we went to see her, I think that made us more determined to adopt her because we knew she'd be stuck there. She took to the training and home family life really quickly. Boundaries, trust, disaplin, love and understanding. The rescue centre couldn't believe the difference in her when we took her back for a photo shoot three months later. Now we're waiting for the right rottie to show up again, when you know, you just know ☺

Do you have any videos on crate training? My 8 week old puppy loves the crate when we in the room. But the second we leave he whines.

I'll give it a try. Just got my 8 week old puppy. He's starting to bite. Hopefully this will help. I also have an11 year old rotti . Will my older dog teach the young pup the do s and don't s?

Perfect discription of the breed. I worked with rotties for a long time training them for security work, from property private and business to crowd management. Supper intelligence, quick problem solving instinct. Loyal, loving and courageous. Not for those who haven't got the time for training not just the brain but the body. This breed will find their own entertainment by redisgning your home if you don't put the work in. They also think they are lap dogs when they've found their perfect human ☺

With proper training they are better family dogs than golden retrievers. Ours is amazing with my daughter she's a gentle giant and very protective of her and the family. She follows our child around outside guarding her

I never had a dog we had outside pets but I do want a rottie for my first pet I do have plenty of back yard space and front yard space but I work from 6a-2p I feel like I can do it but I wouldn’t know what to do with my puppy when I’m gone for 8hrs a day and I’ve been watching plenty of videos most ppl suggest crate them but why keep him in a crate for 8hrs then he would have to sleep in it to? Or just get him a doggy bed for sleep and just place him in the crate when I’m leaving

As a kid my Grandfather used to allow his dog a few squares of chocolate and a saucer of tea all the time. The dog lived to 16 so it didn't do him any harm. I use Cheddar cheese as a reward during training too. I'm not suggesting it's ok to give such things to a dog but just goes to show

There is no magic trick to stop them pulling. Mine still pull when using a prong collar even, although less so. I've had 4 Rotties over time and I think the pulling was actually caused by me not lead walking them much when they were younger. I live semi rural and walk in the fields and all my dogs have had excellent recall so no need for a leash much of the time. However I've come to the conclusion that I have allowed them too much freedom and they start to hunt. When a situation arises and you need to leash them, that's when they pull because for one thing they wonder why you are leashing them and look around to see why but also they are still hunting and walking at the pace as if off the lead. I don't think its ever too late to teach a dog to walk nicely though and I'm doing more lead walking even in the fields now. The 'turn round and walking the other way' when they pull technique, in my experience, doesn't work, well not in the short term anyway. They come to heel but within seconds they are off pulling again but I guess you just have to keep going

I always wanted a rottweiler, I finally got him and yes it has been difficult but I wouldn't trade it our boy loves us and would do anything for us!!!!!

I had several rottweilers and never had any issues with them harming my children or neighbors of the family. Smokey protected us all and he was sweet and approachable by a lot of people. He was laid back as long as you did show any aggression towards my family.

Thank you for this video! My 13 month old intact male goes absolutely out of his mind crazy excited for a pair of female fixed mastiff dogs our neighbors have, to the point that if the neighbors come over, if I go over there and pet them, or in one instance they gave me a ziplock baggie of dog treats, and he smells those dogs, he goes berserk, whale eyes excited, dry humps, whines, or jumps up on the neighbors in a very overly excited way. Any tips for this special issue? Specifically, him jumping on the neighbors because of smelling "The Girls " 😢

I’ve owned Rottweiler for over 30 years and I’ve always crate trained my dogs, when I’m not home their in the crates and also sleep in their crates. To me I feel them being safe in the crate when I’m not home and never had a problem

I think socialisation is essential for any breed. I got a chihuahua when lockdiwn started and I couldn't properly socialise her. Now I'm living with an 8 inch sociopath.
